A carry gun should meet at a minimum, these three rules:
1. Quality material and craftsmanship that you could and would bet your life on.
2. Sized small enough that you're willing to carry it on a regular basis (see rule#1) CCW doesn't stand for Concealed Carry Weapon, it stands for Conveniently Carried Weapon.
3. Ease of Accuracy: All modern guns are more accurate than the shooter. The question is, can you with your hand, your fingers, your strength, your unique physical characteristics shoot that particular gun accurately. The term I have introduced is called Ease of Accuracy. Again, all guns are accurate, but how accurately can you shoot that gun?
Other Factors to Consider
- Don't waste your time considering a .40 cal unless you plan on shooting through lots of car windshields. .
40 is 26% heavier ammo than 9mm, 35% more expensive, has greater recoil, and will do you no good if you miss your target because you were too cheap to train properly. .40 is a flat nosed heavier bullet that has less deflection and greater penetration through glass. I have also found that .40 has better penetration through glass, but has less penetration than 9mm in person, especially through heavy clothing and Kevlar.
- You can have Light, Good, and Cheap, but you can only have 2 out of those 3 characteristics.
- I carry a Kahr P380, it's currently the best 380 in the world. This opinion is based on quality, reliability size, and
price. It does need the slide-lock filed off, but after a few seconds with a Dremel, it's near perfect. I can carry any gun in the world that I want andthe P380 is my carry for most of the time. If I carry 9mm concealed, it is a Walther PPS 9mm. This Walther is a Glock-off in design and the straightest natural shooter of any concealed carry gun I have yet to shoot.
- I don't care what some wanna be gun-slinger on YouTube says about any gun during his review. Many of
these guys review the guns without even shooting them first! Taurus guns are also crap, I have them, I shoot them, I see them everyday, they are crap. Good crap for the money, but still crap. The Taurus 1911 in 9mm and the 709 Slim 9mm have proven to be quite reliable models for me, but in general, again Taurus is crap.
