other ranges prior to our private range opening for business. Our
facility is still under expansion and growing every day.

One Handed Shooting   Katie is 10 years old and weighs 72lbs.
Effective one handed shooting starts with using your other hand. By squeezing the other hand
into a tight fist, the gun hand grip becomes stronger. For the ladies I usually call this "grabbing
the purse strap". There's no need to have two hands on the gun at close range, use that other
hand to: throw a trash can in between you and the bad guy, open a door while backing up, grab
another weapon, push your child behind you, push your way through a crowd, gouge an eye out,
anything...just use it!
Balance Training   Ok, I know what you're thinking...well actually I don't because when was
the last time you saw a 10 year old girl shooting a Kahr P380 on a 3.5 inch balance beam walking
forwards and backwards. This was only Katie's second day of training. Katie is an exceptional
human. What your watching is multi-tasking with a firearm. Displaying calm cool control and
focus. The balance beam is not for every one, perhaps the balance ball is more your style.
The keyword is balance. There's a balance to everything we do at Blackwater River Tactical
Range. The important thing is for you to find the right balance in your weapon, your instructor
and yourself. Our training is not for everyone, but it is for every situation.
Glock 26  When properly taught how to shoot a Glock, it's hard to miss. The Glock is one of the few guns
actually design to simply point and shoot straight and level. It's a bit bulky to conveniently carry concealed, but
it's still my first choice for any other job.
Braced Stock Technique   Although I do NOT advocate 12 gauge shotguns. I prefer 20 gauges
for home defense. This is a technique I teach to smaller adults and children when using a larger gun
with a bigger kick. Most of the time children are in danger is inside their own homes. If she were to
shoulder this gun, it could hurt her and most certainly limit her to one shot. By bracing the stock up
against a wall, a door, or anything of substance, you can see how easy it is for her to shoot this very
larger and heavy 12 gauge. Although her mobility may be limited, you have to remember she doesn't
have to find the bad guy, he will come to her. Would you want to face this waiting for you at the end of a
hallway or maybe from inside her closet?????
